22. Kate McKinnon

Fresh off her well-received role as Jillian Holtzmann in Ghostbusters and her continued success on Saturday Night Live with unforgettable impersonations of Hillary Clinton, Notorious RBG and Angela Merkel, Kate McKinnon is the Next Big Thing that’s been around for quite some time now.

Her comedy is very distinct as she relies on her goofy and bubbly personality to sell each joke. In the competitive world of late night, uniqueness is key. I bet if she did The Late Show, there’d be some sort of sketch that incorporates McKinnon’s hilarious accent skills.

Because it’s a big part of Stephen Colbert’s sell, CBS might be looking for a host who can skewer politics as easily as he can, but in the event that they’re trying to go in the opposite direction (since it’s working so well for other late night shows), Kate McKinnon would make an excellent host for The Late Show.

If former Saturday Night Live alum Seth Meyers can have his own show, so can Kate, who would be like the late night version of Ellen DeGeneres. They have a lot more in common than how alike they look when you consider their similar upbeat styles of comedy.

And the world needs more upbeat comedy right now.
