Saturday Night Live: Top 10 Chris Farley sketches of all-time
By David Rouben
Ranking the best Chris Farley sketches during his magical run on Saturday Night Live.
Of all the cast members that have come through the ranks during Saturday Night Live‘s 40+ year run, Chris Farley remains one of the best, if not the best. His extreme personality lit up the room, and he used his body type to provide some of the show’s best slapstick comedy moments, although he wasn’t fat – he was just full of jokes. He has provided SNL with some memorable characters, and was taken from this Earth far too soon.
His run on SNL may have only lasted from 1990-95, but the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long. It’s no coincidence that his time on the show was considered to be SNL’s golden age, and alongside Adam Sandler, David Spade, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider, they formed the “Bad Boys of SNL.” That was mostly because of the trouble that group was known to cause off-screen, and Sandler even revealed that he and Farley got fired from the show. But looking back, there’s no doubt that NBC regarded him as an invaluable part of their show’s history.
Outside of the late-night sketch show, Farley had a great movie career too. He teamed up with his co-star David Spade to make Tommy Boy and Black Sheep which have both gone on to become cult classics. His drug problems caught up to him during Beverly Hills Ninja, and as a result, that interfered with the production of his last two films Almost Heroes and Dirty Work, both of which were released after his death.
But Farley’s time on SNL does more than enough to serve as a reminder of how great he was; his movies were the icing on top of an already prolific career. So without further ado, here are the top 10 Chris Farley sketches on SNL.
