6. Schmitt’s Gay

Every beer commercial is the same, it feels like. The product placement is very in your face, attractive girls are always present, and it usually takes place by a pool. That’s what makes Schmitt’s Gay, a send-up of beer commercials, so hilarious, since it encompasses all of those stereotypes, but with one minor twist.

It starts out with a premise: Adam Sandler and Chris Farley house-sitting together in a gloomy neighborhood. But when they turn the water on for the pool, it turns into a beer commercial with scantily clad men emerging instead of women. There are innuendos galore, and it also inspired a timeless gif:

Beer is a product that is enjoyed by a wide variety of people, and yet all commercials for it are targeted towards young male heterosexuals. Schmitt’s Gay isn’t just a parody of beer commercials, it’s also a parody of targeted advertising, capped off by the voiceover at the end which says “If you’ve got a big thirst and you’re gay, reach for a cold tall bottle of Schmitt’s Gay.”

This sketch is also just another example of how diverse Chris Farley and Adam Sandler can be. They’ve dressed in drag for Gap Girls, and are also willing to spread their wings and get down with scantily clad men wearing lots of lotion. There’s no role that they aren’t willing to take on, and the way they deliver each time is what makes them such comedic geniuses.
