2. Chippendale Audition

With the premise of a Chippendale audition set, the viewer knew right away that having Chris Farley auditioning alongside Patrick Swayze would lead to disaster. The fact that the judges spent the better part of a minute talking about how tough the decision would be made the actual audition, a dance routine to “Working for the Weekend”, that much better.

Over two decades later, this stands the test of time as one of the most iconic sketches in SNL history. Knowing that he was at a disadvantage, Farley’s strategy for his audition was to copy Swayze’s every move. He was able to practically go shot-for-shot with Swayze in the audition, and even outdid him with some of those pelvic thrusts.

In the end, they went with Swayze but the way the judges simultaneously complimented and fat-shamed Farley was hilarious to watch. While he certainly proved to be a hell of a dancer, there’s no doubt that having him serve as a dancer at Chippendale would’ve scarred their customers for life.

This sketch is also a great way to honor the passing of Farley, Swayze, and Jan Hooks. All of them were tremendous actors, and one has to think that doing this sketch while keeping a straight face remained one of the toughest challenges of their careers.

And if Chris Farley has become known for anything, it’s the way he breaks out of stereotypes. So to see him audition as a Chippendale dancer and nearly get it is not only a joy to watch, it can also serve as an inspiration to pursue your dreams.
