Sasheer Zamata (Indiana)

Joining the ranks of Saturday Night Live in 2014, Sasheer Zamata was instantly welcomed by the fans of the long-running sketch comedy series. Her debut sketch, in which she played famous pop star Rihanna, was very well-received by critics and she was quickly promoted to repertory player based on her work. The producers backstage apparently liked Zamata just as much as the millions of fans watching at home.

For anyone who knew Zamata before she wound up on SNL, however, this wouldn’t have been surprising. Zamata had a lot of experience in comedy, having performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York for years. She found various work on TV on shows like Inside Amy Schumer, and even has her own YouTube channel with more awesome impressions of Rihanna, as well as other stars like Michelle Obama, Tyra Banks, and Nicki Minaj.

Zamata was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, graduating from Pike High School in 2004. As undoubtedly one of the funniest people in the state, she has earned this spot on the list. But she hasn’t forgotten where she’s come from, and she continues to return to the state for various comedy shows.
