5. Derek Jeter

The Jeets took to the stage in Season 27, and is easily the best Yankee to go on SNL. His opening monologue started off the episode strong as he hit baseballs into the audience, destroying lights, noses, and the ACLs of the people watching. Jeter is used to the big show from playing in New York, and it showed in his willingness to do damn near anything to get a laugh.

We’ve already talked about “Derek Jeter’s Taco Hole”, but the sketch “Yankee Wives” stole the show. It features Jeter in drag posing as the wife of Alfonso Soriano, talking about how the couple met and bantering with the likes of Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph. It takes some serious shots at then-current Yankee players, from Roger Clemens’s anger issues to talking about Jeter himself, saying that he looks like “If the Rock had sex with a Muppet”.

It’s scathing, it’s funny, it’s topical, and it’s easily one of the best sports personality sketches.
