The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Recap – 2-22

facebooktwitterreddit

Fallon is back from Los Angeles and back in New York City. I thought he would take a week off to recover after all those crazy L.A. parties, but no. He’s back to work with a great episode to kick off the week. Stars of Eddie The Eagle Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton stopped by. Here’s the full recap.

Monologue

Fallon started the monologue with some political conversations as per usual. Jeb dropped out of the race, which got a ton of applause from the Tonight Show audience when Jimmy mentioned it. Jimmy played a clip of Jeb fumbling threw is concession speech. Oh, poor Jeb. He was the butt of about the first five minutes of the monologue, which had a graphic of how his campaign money was spent and a joke about him not having any supporters. Jimmy shifted gears toward Donald Trump, which had one loud cheer from the crowd followed by a couple hushed boos.

Joke of the monologue: “The actor who played Chewbacca recently tweeted a picture of the original Star Wars script when it was called The Adventures of Luke Starkiller. The script raised a lot of questions like why did the guy who played Chewbacca need a script?”

To the Desk

The Yahoo Answers Lounge Singers

Jimmy hasn’t done this bit in a long time, but it’s a good one. Jimmy brings out actress and Audra McDonald and the two sing actual questions and answers from Yahoo Answers. The bit works thanks to Jimmy and Audra’s back and forth between questions. They perfectly recreate the lounge singer persona. Check out the bit below.

The Guests

Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton

Having two guests at the same time isn’t done enough in the late night landscape. Three-way conversations are better than one-on-one. Jackman started the interview by talking about a recent trip he had as a pilot on an F-16 jet. Taron didn’t join him, but Jackman said it was a terrifying experience. Eventually, Taron joined the conversation about him home town. The name of his home town is enormous. Serious, it’s probably about 50 letters. Jackman and Jimmy took turns trying to pronounce it. Talking about Eddie The Eagle, Egerton didn’t know anything about the athlete since his success was year before Egerton was born.

Catchphrase

Jimmy, Jackman and Egerton played a game of Catchphrase. They were joined by Steve Higgins to round out the foursome. Catchphrase is always a fun game to watch be played. The first round was feverish, and it eventually went to the third and final round. Check out the whole clip below.

Audra McDonald

Audra McDonald was actually the second guest on Monday’s show. The last time she helped with the Yahoo Answers bit, that was all she did. The two laughed about practicing the Yahoo bit and some of their favorite Yahoo Answers. She was there to promote the Broadway musical called Shuffle Along. McDonald is one of the most decorated theater actors. She’s the only woman to win Tony Awards in all acting categories. She had to learn tap dance for this musical, which is something that she didn’t know how to do.

The show concluded with a performance from Hall and Oats. They jammed out and sang “I Can’t Go For That.” They still sound great. Tune back in tomorrow for a full recap when Jimmy welcomes
