Jimmy Fallon in Los Angeles – Day 2 Recap
By Max Parker
Monday’s L.A. show was solid to kick off the week, thanks to appearances from Will Ferrell and Christina Aguilera. Jimmy rode that momentum into Tuesday when he welcomed Zach Galifianakis and Ronda Rousey. In the surprise of the night, the cast of Full House and recently Fuller House stopped by for a sketch. Here’s the “full” recap.
Monologue
Jimmy welcomed the crowed by telling them it was the show’s second day in Los Angeles and they just found a parking spot. Congrats to Questlove and Tariq for taking home a Grammy on Monday for their work on Hamilton. While on the topic of the Grammy’s, Jimmy brought up Adele’s technical difficulties from Monday. A mic problem caused her to sound off-key. Later she tweeted that she treated herself to In-and-Out Burger. Jimmy turned that into a joke about Adele singing “Hello” into the drive-thru speaker. Moving on to politics, Fallon showed a video clip of former candidate Lindsay Graham introducing Jeb and George W. Bush at a rally saying “I like bushes.” It was solid video that was good for an easy laugh. He then poked fun at a new ad from Marco Rubio that depicts America waking up, except some of the clips used weren’t from America. This seems to happen every campaign. How hard is it to find footage from America? It was a pretty straight forward monologue for Fallon in his second day in Los Angeles.
To the Desk
Trump on Fuller House
The bit everyone is going to be talking about followed Tuesday’s monologue. It was like an episode of Fuller House along with the full cast, except Jimmy Fallon’s Donald Trump was also living in the house. It played out perfectly like a Full House episode. Trump needed some guidance after being concerned that if he lost, everyone would call him a loser. The cast brought their signature catch phrases and everything and finished the bit by singing the theme song. Check out the clip below.
The Guests
Zach Galifianakis
Jimmy started by congratulating Zach on his work on his interview web series Between Two Ferns. Zach thanked him, but said he doesn’t think he’d go back to it stating that he thought it was a bit too one-note. Jimmy also congratulated Zach for his new show Baskets, which promoted Zach to ask why he was being complimented so much. Zach turned the tables and congratulated Jimmy on The Tonight Show. The interview went exactly as you would expect a Zach Galifianakis interview to go. Eventually the two talked about his new show. It’s about a down-on-his-luck rodeo clown who studied clown theory in Paris. It’s produced by Louis C.K., so I should probably be giving it a shot.
True Confessions
This is one of my favorite Tonight Show bits. It’s a game played with two other guests along with Jimmy. Bill Maher joined Tuesday’s game. Two of the guests take turns interrogating the other on a fact they read about themselves. It may be a lie and it may be true. After a minute of interrogation, the two questioners have to determine if the fact was true or a lie. Bill Maher and Galifianakis are at opposite ends of the comedy spectrum, but it was funny to see them interact together. Check out the clip below.
Ronda Rousey
Jimmy kicked off the interview by talking about her new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover. After that congratulatory conversation, Jimmy brought up the Holly Holm fight and asked if there would be a rematch. She said there would be, but she had to shoot the remake of Roadhouse after her last fight. Now that that’s finished, the rematch is going to happen. From there, she talked about joining a marine at a ball who asked her via YouTube. She said it was the first time she smiled after her loss against Holly Holm. It was a brief but solid interview.
The episode concluded with a high-energy musical performance from Pitbull and Robin Thicke. Check back tomorrow for a recap of Thursday’s episode when Jimmy welcomes Jennifer Lopez, Snoop Dogg and Zayn Malik.
