The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Recap – 12/15
By Max Parker
Fallon’s holiday week moves forward with the second show of the week. Tuesday and Wednesday has back-to-back Daddy’s Home stars. Mark Wahlberg is up first, followed by Will Ferrell on Wednesday. Comedian Bill Burr and musician Sheryl Crow also stopped by. Here’s the full recap of Tuesday’s Show.
Monologue
Jimmy didn’t start with politics this time and instead opened with the unseasonably warm weather. He compared holiday traditions from this year and last year. Last Christmas, Santa made a list of who’s naughty or nice. This Christmas, he made a list of who has central air and who doesn’t. Last Christmas, you went to an ugly sweater party. This Christmas, you went to an ugly, sweaty party. Eventually, the monologue entered the realm of politics. Trump release his medical records, which state that he’s never used alcohol or tobacco in his life. The punchline: That explains why he’s so good at ruining parties. Newt Gingrich commented on Trump’s lead stating that he’s the one who can kick down the doors of the establishment. He added that Chris Christie is the one who can burst through the walls like the kool-aid man.
Joke of the monologue: A new poll shows that Hillary Clinton is increasing her lead over Bernie Sanders. Experts say that Bernie would need something major to regain people’s attention, so Bernie said, “Alright, leak the sex tape!”
To the Desk
A Tribute to Star Wars
Fallon and the Roots did something special for the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Just like they did Miley Cyrus’ pop hit “We Can’t Stop,” the gang did an a cappela version of the Star Wars theme. They were joined by The Force Awakens cast members, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Gwendoline Christie. Check out the great clip below.
12 Days of Christmas Sweaters
There are only four Christmas sweaters to give away in Fallon’s own personal Advent Calendar. Tuesday’s sweater was a bright red number that had glittery presents on it and shoulder pads, plus a green Santa Clause. Only three left after Tuesday!
The Guests
Mark Wahlberg came out talking about Christmas time and preparing the big day for his kids. That segued into a conversation about attending his kids’ flag football games. Jimmy pulled out a picture of a fired up Wahlberg on the sidelines of his kids’ game. Mark apparently gets really into his kids’ sports. It was a brief, but entertaining interview. He’s always pretty down to earth and straight forward in interviews.
Football Toss
Jimmy played a similar game with retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre just last week. Tuesday’s competition involved the two of them throwing odd objects through a hole. They had a dancing santa ornament, chocolate milkshake from Wahlburgers, gingerbread house and a football made of Play-Doh. Wahlberg was a total pro. Check out the segment below.
Bill Burr
Comedian Bill Burr was up next to talk about his Netflix show. The two comedians shared old comedy stories from their career. He’s also in Daddy’s Home. Burr is also from Boston just like Wahlberg, but he never met him before appearing in Daddy’s Home. Burr pivoted into a bit about McDonald’s. He’s upset that McDonald’s allowed fat people to bully them. They were ruined when they introduced the salad. As Burr puts it, “it’s like a comedian apologizing to a blogger.”
The show closed with some singing from Sheryl Crow along with The Roots. Tomorrow should be an A+ show when Jimmy’s friend Will Ferrell stops by. There was an epic lip sync battle the last time Ferrell was on. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. Be sure to check back to Last Night On for the full recap.
