HBO might not want to let Game of Thrones go quietly into the night without giving it more than six episodes in the final season.

For a while now, it seems to be common knowledge that there are only 13 episodes left of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. Those 13 remaining episodes are slated to be rolled out over the course of two seasons, with the penultimate season still lacking a concrete premiere date in the summer.

Already the series has been pushed back from it’s usual spring premiere date and it appears changes may continue as time progresses. The most significant of those changes could be additional episodes tacked onto the final season of the show.

According to TVLine, HBO’s Casey Bloys has said there could be more episodes added to the final season of Game of Thrones, as HBO still hasn’t specified how many they want:

"The only thing we’re working out is how many episodes they want to do … They’re still figuring it out because I think they’re trying to get a shape of the season. They always do what they think [will yield] the best version of the show. It’s all about how many they’re comfortable [with]. But I’ll always take more."

Up to this point, all indications have pointed towards there being seven episodes in 2017 and six episodes in 2018, thus rounding out the series. The possibility has always existed that there will be a cinematic finale to the series, as a Game of Thrones movie has long been something kicked around the rumor mill.

But far more fascinating is the idea that we could be getting more episodes in the final season. That makes much more sense from a story standpoint and comes across way less tacky than to force fans to pay extra to see the finale in a theater.

We wil have to wait and see if there is further word on this, but it sounds like while winter might have come, the end of Game of Thrones is being put off as long as possible.
